Computer Mechanix releases the "Ultimate" gamer system.
June 23, 2004 by Eric Jacobson
Computer Mechanix, Inc., a mainstay of Asheville's technology services industry, released the specs of its first computer system today. Aimed at high-end computer users and built to play video games, handle multimedia and be an all-around powerhouse, Computer Mechanix's first system is called the CMX "Ultimate."
The system is built around 64-bit architecture so it will be prepared to handle all of the newest applications and operating systems that are set to come out in the coming years. However, Computer Mechanix chose AMD's Athlon FX-53 processor, the fastest desktop processor available at this time, so users will be able to use all of the current 32-bit applications, video games and utilities currently on the market.
The system, priced at $3,049.99, offers many features and capabilities not available from more mainstream computer providers like Mushkin memory, an ASUS motherboard, two optical Sony drives (a CDRW/DVD drive and a DVD+RW/-RW drive) and an ANTEC 480-watt power supply. Also included is a high-end speaker system - the Logitech THX Z-680 5.1 home/computer theater system.
Computer Mechanix also goes the extra mile by including a 1-year subscription to Symantec's Norton Internet Security 2004, a package that includes AntiVirus, AntiSpam, Personal Firewall, Ad-Blocker and several other useful Internet-related programs. Most computer companies only include 30-90 days of antivirus protection.
The software installed on the system is extremely sparse, only including the operating system (Windows XP Professional edition) and the Norton Internet Security package. The specialists at Computer Mechanix know that most computer companies fill up a new computer with a large amount of software packages that the majority of users don't use. This extra software can actually impede the entire system's overall performance, so by limiting what's installed, the CMX "Ultimate" gamer system runs faster and more reliably than many of the mainstream computer companies' systems.
Computer Mechanix also stresses that the system is completely configurable with customers being able to substitute parts and/or software as necessary.
